Best Balance Transfer Credit Cards

Almost everyone recognizes the uncomfortable feeling of having several overloaded credit cards, some of them with an unreasonably high interest rate. It's not hard to to imagine how this situation can develop - automobile problems, kids needing money, temporary loss of employment, or simply wanting to give the family a great holiday can all push any of us a little too far financially. Obtaining a loan (even more credit) to repay a credit card balance is not a sound strategy - (article continues ...)

We can be tempted by this 'way out', as the payments proposed are normally much longer term than our card payments, so we receive imediate relief from our financial worries. However, invariably we end up losing over the long term. What are the alternatives?

Best Balance Transfer Credit Cards

The last thing you need right now is another credit card, right? Normally, this is true, but it depends on the kind of card we are talking about. As a first step, gather all you cards together and add all the balances together. Next, add all the monthly payments together and set yourself a goal like 'I want to cut these monthly payments by 25 or 50%'. This is your task - to find a way to change you card issuer, while at the same time reducing your payments. Sounds too easy? Not at all, particularly if your payment history has been stable up to this point.

Competition amongst card issuers is fierce and this definitely works to the consumer's advantage in this case. In a previous exercise you counted up all your monthly payments and it so happens that a considerable percentage of those payments consists of interest, your agreed APR. Now hear this - some issuers are happy to let transfer all you balances to one of their cards and charge you 0% for periods ranging from 6 to 15 months! Inevitably, you will find that your monthly commitment will be much less. If it was your goal to pay off your credit cards, the this strategy gives you an exciting opportunity, as all payments made within the agreed period will be interest free.

Issuers of the best balance transfer credit cards offer further incentives to persuade consumers to transfer their balances to a new card. These incentives can range from cash back bonuses to reward points which can be redeemed at certain stores, or exchanged against airplane flights. Decide you goals, compare as many cards as you can and make a careful choice.
